چکیده
The effect of substituents on the acidity benzoic acids and anilines has been organized in grids to demonstrate inductive resonance effects. relation between structure pKa is emphasized by a new educational process: Search-Organize-Predict (SOP) procedure.

Structure and Reactivity: Acidity and Basicity
For example, in the self-ionization of water we see that two water molecules collide to react and form a hydroxide ion and a hydronium ion. Each reaction begins first by an electrostatic attraction between an electron rich and an electron poor region of the reactants. Hydrogen bonding occurs between the electron deficient hydrogen of one water molecule with the electron rich oxygen of another w...
متن کاملTautomerization, acidity, basicity, and stability of cyanoform: a computational study.
BACKGROUND Cyanoform is long known as one of the strongest acid. Cyanoform is only stable below -40 °C. The issue of the stability and tautomeric equilibria of cyanoform (CF) are investigated at the DFT and MP2 levels of theory. The present work presents a detailed study of structural tautomer interconversion in three different media, namely, in the gas phase, in a solvent continuum, and in a m...
متن کاملEffect of surface acidity and basicity of aluminas on asphaltene adsorption and oxidation.
This study investigates the effect of surface acidity and basicity of aluminas on asphaltene adsorption followed by air oxidation. Equilibrium batch adsorption experiments were conducted at 25°C with solutions of asphaltenes in toluene at concentrations ranging from 100 to 3000 g/L using three conventional alumina adsorbents with different surface acidity. Data were found to better fit to the F...
متن کاملAcidity and basicity of aqueous mixtures of a protic ionic liquid, ethylammonium nitrate.
Ethylammonium nitrate (EAN) is composed of C(2)H(5)NH(3)(+) and NO(3)(-) ions, which behave as an acid and a base, respectively. The ionic liquid thus involves small amounts of C(2)H(5)NH(2) and HNO(3) molecules owing to proton transfer from C(2)H(5)NH(3)(+) to NO(3)(-). The equilibrium constant K(s) (= [C(2)H(5)NH(2)][HNO(3)]), which corresponds to the autoprotolysis constant of water, was obt...
متن کاملDipolarity, hydrogen-bond basicity and hydrogen-bond acidity of aqueous poly(ethylene glycol) solutions.
Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) in water is known to alter the structure and/or state of water to give a different polarity from that of pure water. We determined using the solvatochromic comparison method the dipolarity/polarizability (pi*), hydrogen bond (HB) accepting basicity (beta) and HB donating acidity (alpha) of aqueous solutions of PEGs of variegated molecular weights at different concent...
